Essential Information for Radio Microphone Users

Are you using your Radio Microphones Legally?

There has recently been an important change in legislation that affects all those who use wireless microphones, in ear-monitoring and instrument systems.

Due to the digital switchover the frequencies that can be licenced for radio microphones have been changed.

The two bands affected are the 800MHz UHF band (TV Channels 61-69) and the higher frequency 2.6 Ghz band.

This new era follows the sale of part of the radio spectrum by Ofcom http://www.ofcom.org.uk  to the mobile phone industries 4G network, widely referred to as the 4G auction. If you operate or own radio microphones within your organisation you may now be using them illegally. In addition you may find they will not work properly or be subject to RF (Radio Frequency) interference from mobile phones.

A narrow band of deregulated frequencies remain available in the spectrum between 863-865 MHz (Channel 70) however, this range this is unlikely to be future proof.  In order to remain compliant with the law all new systems will now need to be co-ordinated and licensed by the JFMG http://www.jfmg.co.uk.

The new legislation came into force at the beginning of January so you need to act quickly, but don’t worry, Feltech can help.
